The name gained widespread recognition through the legendary King Arthur of Britain, whose exploits were first recorded in the 9th century by the historian Nennius. The tales of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table were further expanded upon in the 12th century by Geoffrey of Monmouth in his work Historia Regum Britanniae.

In the 16th century, the name Aurther gained prominence with the birth of Aurther Tudor, the illegitimate son of King Henry VII of England, who lived from 1486 to 1542. Another notable figure from this period was Aurther Golding, an English translator who lived from around 1535 to 1606 and is best known for his translation of Ovid's Metamorphoses.
