The history of the first name Clarena

The name Clarena originated in the late 15th century as a blend of the Latin names Clara, meaning "bright" or "clear," and Rena, which is a shortened form of the name Renata, meaning "reborn." It first appeared in parts of what is now northern Italy and southern Switzerland, where Latin and its Romance language derivatives were widely spoken.

One of the earliest recorded uses of the name Clarena can be found in a 1492 census record from the town of Bellinzona, which at the time was part of the Duchy of Milan. The record lists a Clarena Bianchi, born around 1470, as a member of a local noble family.

In the 16th century, the name spread to other parts of Europe as the Renaissance facilitated cultural exchange. Clarena Pico della Mirandola (1508-1589), an Italian noblewoman and patron of the arts, was an influential figure during this time. She hosted salons in her palace where intellectuals and artists gathered.

The name also appeared in religious texts, such as a 1593 account of the life of Clarena de la Torre (1568-1621), a Spanish nun known for her piety and charity work in Madrid.

During the 17th century, Clarena van der Mijle (1639-1703) was a renowned Dutch painter who specialized in still life and floral compositions. Her works can be found in several museums across Europe.

In the 19th century, Clarena Irvine Inge (1854-1920) was a British author and translator who published several novels and books on travel and culture. She spent many years living in Italy and wrote extensively about Italian society and customs.

Another notable figure was Clarena Dallmeyer (1856-1915), a British photographer who worked alongside her father, John Henry Dallmeyer, a pioneer in the field of photographic optics. Her portraits and landscape photographs were highly regarded during her lifetime.
