The history of the first name Connery

The name Connery is of Scottish Gaelic origin, derived from the Old Gaelic word "Conaire," which means "hound lover" or "wolf-lover." It is believed to have originated in the Highlands of Scotland during the Middle Ages, sometime around the 12th or 13th century.

One of the earliest recorded instances of the name Connery can be found in the Annals of Ulster, a chronicle of medieval Irish history, where it is mentioned in reference to a Scottish chieftain named Conaire in the year 1264. It is also thought to have been used as a personal name among the Dalriadic Scots, who migrated from Ireland to the west coast of Scotland in the 5th and 6th centuries.

Throughout history, there have been several notable individuals who bore the name Connery. One of the earliest was Sir John Connery, a Scottish knight who fought alongside Robert the Bruce during the Wars of Scottish Independence in the early 14th century.
