The history of the first name Constantina

The name Constantina is derived from the Latin word "constantia" which means constancy, steadfastness, or firmness. It traces its origins to ancient Rome and the Roman Empire. The name was popularized during the reign of Emperor Constantine the Great, who was the first Roman emperor to convert to Christianity in the 4th century AD.

One of the earliest recorded bearers of the name Constantina was the daughter of Emperor Constantine the Great. She lived from around 320 to 354 AD and was married to her cousin, the Roman emperor Constantius III. Another notable Constantina was the wife of Emperor Maurice, who ruled the Byzantine Empire from 582 to 602 AD.

In the Middle Ages, the name was also used in the Byzantine Empire and among various Christian communities in the Mediterranean region. One famous bearer was Constantina of Aragon, who lived from 1179 to 1160 and was the Queen of Hungary as the wife of King Béla III.

In the 19th century, Constantina de Bragança was a Portuguese infanta and daughter of King Pedro IV. She lived from 1838 to 1891 and was known for her charitable works and patronage of the arts.
