Haddasah is a Hebrew name derived from the Hebrew word "hadas," meaning myrtle tree. The name has its origins in ancient Persia, now known as Iran, and dates back to around the 5th century BCE.

The name Haddasah is most famously associated with Esther, the Jewish queen of Persia mentioned in the biblical Book of Esther. According to the text, Esther's Hebrew name was Haddasah, which was changed to Esther when she became queen.
