The history of the first name Mikias

The name Mikias is derived from the Ge'ez language, which was a Semitic language spoken in what is now Eritrea and Ethiopia. The name Mikias has its origins in the name Mikhael, which is the Ge'ez equivalent of the Hebrew name Michael, meaning "who is like God?".

The name Mikias likely emerged as a variation of Mikhael sometime in the early centuries AD, when Christianity was spreading in the region. The Ge'ez language and its writing system were closely tied to the spread of Christianity in the area.

One of the earliest known references to the name Mikias comes from the medieval Ge'ez text known as the Kebra Nagast, which recounts the legendary origins of the Solomonic dynasty in Ethiopia. In this text, a character named Mikias is mentioned as being a high-ranking official in the court of the Queen of Sheba.

Another early historical figure with the name Mikias was Saint Mikias, a 14th-century Ethiopian monk and religious leader who is venerated in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. He is believed to have lived from around 1300 to 1363.
