Raymell

The name Raymell is a modern variant of the traditional English name Raymond. It is thought to have originated as a compound of the Germanic elements "ragin" meaning counsel or advice, and "mund" meaning protection or hand. Together these root words suggest Raymell means something along the lines of "wise protector" or "counselor with strength."

While the exact origin of the spelling Raymell is unclear, it likely emerged as a creative reimagining of the more common Raymond in the late 20th century. The added double "l" ending gives it a distinct flair. As a relatively new form, there are few firmly established historical references for Raymell itself prior to recent decades.

That said, the root name Raymond boasts a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. During the Renaissance, the Italian artist Raphael Sanzio (1483-1520), known simply as Raphael, became one of the most celebrated painters and architects of his era. His full name, Raffaello Sanzio, derives from the Italian variation Raffaele on the name Raymond.

Moving into more modern times, the American portrait artist Raymond Jonson (1891-1982) co-founded the Transcendental Painting Group and spent much of his career capturing landscapes of the American Southwest.
