AVRAMOV likely emerged as a surname in the 13th or 14th century, as hereditary family names became more common among the Eastern Orthodox Christian population of the Balkans. Early variants of the spelling included Avramovic, Avramovich, and Avramov.

One of the earliest recorded instances of the name AVRAMOV appears in a 16th century census record from the town of Ruse, in present-day northern Bulgaria. The document lists an Avram Avramov, a landowner and cattle farmer.

Notable bearers of the name from this era include Ismail Avramov (c.1640-1711), a Muslim landowner and military officer in the Ottoman forces.

As Bulgaria regained independence in the late 19th century, the AVRAMOV surname became more widespread. Konstantin Avramov (1888-1972) was a respected painter and educator at the National Academy of Arts in Sofia.
