The surname Bloomgren has its origins in Sweden and dates back to the early 17th century. It is a combination of the Swedish words "bloom" meaning "flower" and "gren" meaning "branch." This suggests that the name may have referred to a person who lived near a flowering tree or bush.

The earliest recorded instance of the name Bloomgren appears in a parish record from the town of Mora in the Dalarna region of central Sweden in 1632. It was spelled "Blumgren" at the time, reflecting the local dialect. The name is also found in church records from the nearby town of Orsa from the late 1600s.

In the 18th century, the Bloomgren surname began to spread beyond the Dalarna region as families migrated to other parts of Sweden. By the early 1800s, there were Bloomgren families living in Stockholm and Gothenburg.
