The surname ETCITTY has its origins in the medieval English village of Edcity, located in the county of Gloucestershire. This place name is derived from the Old English words "edisc" meaning pasture or meadow, and "cyte" meaning cottage or dwelling. The earliest known spelling of the name was "Edicyte" in the Domesday Book of 1086.

Records show that a family bearing the name ETCITTY resided in Edcity as early as the 13th century. One of the earliest documented individuals was John Edicyte, a farmer who lived from approximately 1225 to 1298. His son, William Edicyte, born in 1260, was a notable landowner in the region.
