The surname KOSBAB is believed to have originated in the region of modern-day Poland, with roots dating back to the 12th century. Its earliest known spelling was "Koszbab," which is thought to have derived from the Polish words "kosz" (meaning basket) and "bab" (an old Slavic term for an elderly woman or midwife). This suggests that the name may have initially been given to someone whose occupation involved basket-weaving or midwifery.
