The surname Kucko originated in Poland during the late 15th century. It is believed to derive from the Polish word "kuch," which means a cook or chef. This suggests that the name may have been an occupational surname given to someone who worked as a cook or in a related culinary profession.

During the 17th century, the Kucko surname began to spread across other parts of Poland, as well as into neighboring countries. In 1612, a record from the city of Lviv (now in Ukraine) mentions a merchant named Piotr Kucko who traded in spices and other goods from the East.

In the 18th century, the Kucko name appeared in various Polish and Lithuanian noble registers, indicating that some families had achieved noble status. One such family was based in the region of Masovia, with a coat of arms depicting a red griffin on a silver field.
