The surname Narramore is believed to have originated in England during the medieval period. It is thought to be derived from the Old English words "naer" meaning narrow and "mor" meaning moor or marsh, suggesting it may have referred to someone who lived near a narrow moor or marshy area.

One of the earliest recorded instances of the name can be found in the Subsidy Rolls of Worcestershire from 1327, where a Robert Narremer is listed. The spelling variations in early records include Narremer, Narremor, and Narramore.

In the 15th century, the Narramore family was well-established in the county of Gloucestershire, with records showing they held lands and property in the village of Naunton. A notable figure from this time was John Narramore, who served as a constable in Naunton in 1487.
