The surname OKINO is of Japanese origin, originating in the late 16th century. It is derived from the Japanese word "oku", meaning "inner" or "deep", and "no", meaning "field" or "plain". The name likely referred to someone who lived or worked in an inner field or remote area.

One of the earliest recorded instances of the OKINO surname appears in the Edo period (1603-1868) records of the village of Okino, located in the present-day Shizuoka Prefecture. This suggests that the name may have originated from this specific location.
