The surname Strulovitch is believed to have originated in the eastern regions of Poland and western parts of Ukraine during the late 16th century. It is derived from the Slavic root words "strul" meaning "arrow" and "vich" being a common Slavic patronymic suffix, indicating the name likely referred to an archer or someone skilled in archery.
One of the earliest known references to the name can be found in a Polish census record from 1597, listing a Jakub Strulovitch residing in the town of Lviv (then part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth). Another early mention is in a Ukrainian church record from 1612, documenting the baptism of a child named Iwan Strulovitch.
