The surname SUCO is thought to have originated in the region of central Portugal during the late 15th century. It is believed to be derived from the Portuguese word "súco," meaning "juice" or "sap," which may have been an occupational surname given to those who worked with fruits or plants that produced sap or juice.

One of the earliest recorded instances of the SUCO surname can be found in the parish records of the small village of Teixoso, located in the district of Coimbra, Portugal. In 1489, a man named João SUCO was listed as a landowner and farmer in the area.

As the name spread throughout Portugal, it was sometimes spelled differently, such as "Suco" or "Succo." In the 16th century, a notable figure named Gaspar SUCO (1521-1587) was a prominent merchant and trader based in the coastal city of Porto.
