The surname URANO is of Italian origin and is believed to have first appeared in the late medieval period, around the 13th or 14th century. It is thought to have derived from the Italian word "urano," which means "heavenly" or "celestial," possibly referring to someone who studied the stars or had a connection to astronomy.

One of the earliest recorded instances of the name URANO can be found in a document from the city of Florence, dated 1387, which mentions a certain Gino Urano, a scholar and astronomer.
