How Does the EasyDNA Test Work?

If you would like to do an EasyDNA test at home, you can order yourself an EasyDNA test kit to your doorstep and then you will collect DNA samples via an oral swab, to then re-package them and send them to their laboratories operating all across the world.

Your results will be sent to you within several days after receiving your DNA samples.

It is recommended not to eat or drink anything for about half an hour before taking the oral samples.

What Does EasyDNA Testing Kit Include?

You will receive your EasyDNA test kit with several envelopes in different colors. Each kit will contain several swabs in one of these envelopes, each representing one person that can be tested - every kit allows several people to get tested.

There is also a submission form for your details.

EasyDNA also allows you to make your own test kit by simply purchasing sterile cotton swabs from your local pharmacy and envelopes which you differentiate for each person by yourself.

How to Purchase an EasyDNA Testing Kit

Ordering and purchasing an EasyDNA test kit is incredibly easy, thanks to their online platform. Simply go to EasyDNA's website and follow these steps:

Choose "Order Now"

You then will be directed to a window where you can choose DNA testing kits for the purposes listed above (i.e., paternity testing, lineage testing, etc.).

EasyDNA "Order Now" Website

Choose the exact test you want to do

You will then be directed to the next page, where you are able to choose exactly which kind of test kit you would like to receive. For instance, in the case of a paternity test, you will be asked to choose between a Home Paternity Test or a Legal Paternity Test, etc.

Select additional services

Here you will be able to select additional testing kits and provide further information on who exactly will be tested.

You can also choose how you would like to receive your test results, which can either be via email or email and hard copy, and whether these should just be sent to one or two different addresses.

Purchase your kit

After finalizing your order, you will be re-directed to checkout, where you provide your personal details and address and choose your method of payment.

How much does an EasyDNA test kit cost?

That depends on which test you require and also on the various courier methods you can choose from.

A Home Paternity Test, for instance, will start at $109, but depending on the mode of shipping, you can expect to pay about $10 to $30 more.

Legal tests are more expensive, with a Legal Paternity Test costing $279.

How to Use an EasyDNA Testing Kit

Step 1

Start by preparing an envelope for each person you want to get tested (you can do the following steps either with a test kit that has been sent to you by EasyDNA or with a homemade test kit, as explained earlier).

Write the following information on each envelope:

  • Reference Code (provided upon purchase)
  • Full Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Relationship (for instance: alleged father, child, etc.)

Step 2

Use one of the clean swabs and make sure not to touch the cotton end. Rub the cotton end on the inside of your cheeks; run it around your mouth against your gums as well as behind your lips for about one minute. Do this with four swabs per person.

Use a different swab for the next person and repeat the procedure in the same manner.

Make sure that you rub the cotton swab firmly but without causing any pain against your cheeks and gums in order to collect enough loose cells and not just saliva.

Step 3

Let the swabs dry for about one hour at least. Make sure to place each person's swabs individually in a clean spot, for instance, a clean glass, and make sure that the cotton end of the swab that was used by each person does not come in contact with anything else.

The best option is to place the swab in the glass with the cotton end up in the air.

When the swab appears dry (don't touch them to check, though!), place them in each person's labeled envelope and seal.

Step 4

Take a larger envelope and place your signed submission form as well as the paper envelopes containing the swabs inside.

Ensure you add sufficient postage and that you are using a secure posting service such as a mail tracking service or a courier to send the samples back to EasyDNA.

Step 5

Wait for your test results to be emailed and/or posted to you or receive a consultation phone call if you chose this option. For more information on how to collect and send your sample, EasyDNA has a step-by-step guide.

The Pros and Cons of EasyDNA Testing Kit

Here is a quick overview of the advantages and disadvantages of an EasyDNA testing kit:

Pros:

  • Quick and easy results
  • Comprehensible results
  • Operating worldwide - greater chance of finding relatives
  • High levels of accreditation (according to ISO standards) and accurate results (probability of paternity results are 99.99% accurate)

Cons:

  • A home paternal testing kit is different from a legal testing kit and will therefore not be admissible in court; it is only for your own "peace of mind"
  • Possibility of false results of a home testing kit if done wrong
  • Relatively high prices
  • Most shipping methods and additional information are only available for extra fees

When and How Will I Receive My Results?

You can expect to receive your DNA testing results within about three to five working days after EasyDNA has received your samples. In some cases, such as paternity testing, your results can be expedited through "express DNA testing", in which case you will receive your results in three to four working days.

Your results will be emailed to you or emailed and posted to an address of your choice. If you wish to not receive the results to your home address, you can simply have them sent to a different address. You may also choose to send results to two different addresses.

You can book an additional phone consultation, which will explain your results to you and provide guidance and further information depending on the outcome of your tests.

Is an EasyDNA Test Accurate?

Yes, EasyDNA pride themselves on a 99.99% accuracy when it comes to their paternity testing results!

Will EasyDNA Keep My Information Private?

Yes; they have a very thorough privacy policy. If you still feel not at ease with EasyDNA having your data, you can also request them to delete your data altogether.

How Does EasyDNA Compare to the Competition?

EasyDNA has some of the most comprehensible DNA testing options out there and operates in countries worldwide, with globally recognized accreditations such as the ISO standards. This is definitely what sets them apart from their competition.

When looking at other DNA testing companies, in this instance AncestryDNA and SelfDecode, here is what we have found to be the greatest differences:

  • AncestryDNA requires you to register an account and add subscriptions to your account in order to have access to your DNA samples and results for as long as you require
  • SelfDecode is primarily providing you with a DNA test kit that will assist you in understanding your predispositions, determine food allergies, and aid you in finding the right diet or lifestyle according to your genes. You can access information such as a food suggestion report.
  • EasyDNA offers a broad range of DNA tests, such as relationship tests, forensic DNA testing, and even allergy tests.

Yes, you can! With EasyDNA, you can send separate kits to different addresses either within the same country or even in different countries.

For example, you can be residing in Canada and have another testing kit analyzed in an English lab by EasyDNA UK.

According to the company, it is well-versed in handling cases where the tested parties are actually in different countries, specifically ancestry or paternal tests.

Thanks to their laboratories operating worldwide, the company can ship each testing kit to its nearest lab and office. How does a paternity test work?

If you choose to do a paternity test at home, you will be provided with sterile cotton buds which will collect your oral swab samples. In order to test for potential paternity, you will have to provide samples from your child or children as well as from the potential father (and mother if possible, as this aids in more accurate results).

If you are unable to provide DNA from the potential father, you can also send in swabs from a close relative of the potential father, such as the sibling or parents, etc. In this case, you will definitely have to provide DNA from the mother as well, as the results are not as definite if the potential father's DNA is not provided.

After receiving your swabs, EasyDNA will extract 21 genetic markers from your samples to ensure the utmost accuracy in your results.

If there is a match between the child's and the potential father's marker profile, the potential father is the biological father, without cause for speculation.

The Bottom Line

Collecting DNA is a sensitive issue, especially when it is connected to paternal and ancestry-related questions. Having a company that treats your information with respect and offers paternity testing starting at lower prices than the competition is paramount when wanting to find out easily and without too much hassle who your biological father is, for instance.

We can highly recommend EasyDNA for its excellent service, high customer satisfaction, and whole range of other tests you can receive from their labs.

EasyDNA is discrete, with high total accuracy, and operates in different countries all across the globe.

Their oral swab samples do not just assist with relationship tests, but their other DNA test kits offer forensic DNA testing and can also assist you in determining food allergies. You can even test your dog or cat for its ancestral lineage, which can help you find a more suitable food for your pet.

The customer care team at EasyDNA will guide you through the emotional journey of relationship tests and have received excellent reviews overall.

If you are looking for high-quality service that covers a broad range of questions you might have throughout your life, EasyDNA is definitely a great company to choose.
